See below for steps in the creation of this colourful CUSHION.
STEP 1. Small pieces of prefelts were scattered over the large background piece of dark blue felt. They were then individually attached using machine felting. Various thick coloured knitting wools were plaited and arranged over this. These too were carefully arranged some with a loop, some crossing over another colour, and some forming a twisted loop. Importance was placed on what now was revealed in those loops e.g. the colours of the smaller prefelts. The plaits were then machine needle felted into place.
STEP 2. I chose to use sock wool for the embroidery stitching, it is the correct ply and you get a range of colours in each ball.
Step 3. The choice of stitches is not critical just use those that you know. I have used the following. Couching. Herringbone. French Knots. Backstitch. Y stitch. Cretan stitch.ETC. Here, the stitching is in progress. To finish the cushion back, choose a plain fabric, one colour that you have in your design.
