Needle Felting and Embroidery in Wools

This cushion cover uses 2 processes. Machine needle felting and hand stitching, using just one embroidery stitch. see below for further instructions.

Step 1
These are the range of tie dyed CRAZY COLOURED PREFELTS I sourced. The piece of background FELT that these are attached to can be any colour as it will not be seen

Step 2. The overlapping of the cut prefelts on top of the background piece of felt is important. Here they are mainly triangular, but in the above completed cushion I have chosen to use rounded shapes.

Step 3. SOCK KNITTING WOOL is what I use for the embroidery. It has the correct ply, is bright, and has an excellent colour range.

Step 4. In this cushion cover the sole embroidery stitch used is CRETAN STITCH. This is a stitch that you can vary to turn corners without much difficulty. In the above photo you will also note that I have attached using needle felting a plaited band of thicker wool, swirling around, that helps divide up the prefelt colours as well as revealing the areas to be embroidered.
